February 2012

▪ On the feast of the presentation of the Lord, Srs. Beatrix Köhler, Gerhardis Tenberge and Pallotta Biermann celebrated their 60 anniversary of vows in the Provincial House. Provincial Superior, Sr. Helga Weidemann honored the jubilarians at the beginning of the thanksgiving Mass and Fr. Bernhard Hartwig, SAC spoke in his homily about the “desire for “MORE”, which is also alive after 60 years of religious life and which only God can fill.

▪ The month of February was marked by the death of Sr. Maria Knaus and Sr. Thaddäa Kellner, who were called to God one after the another. “With the presence of Superior General and fellow Sisters from Rome, England, USA, India, Poland, Rwanda and Tanzania and family members, Pallottine Fathers and Brothers, and friends and the Sisters of the German Province, Sr. Maria Knaus, was buried in the Provincialate cemetery. (See the website.)

▪ Two days later, on Saturday, February 25, the community celebrated the funeral service and Eucharist for Sr. Thaddäa Kellner. For 53 years she had lived and worked in South Africa. Two years ago she returned to Germany and soon became integrated into the community of the Provincial House. The Holy Mass received a unique character primarily by the South African songs of a group of gospel singers, who occasionally were in the retreat house.  These songs in which the whole community was involved built a bridge to the country where Sr. Thaddäa had served children and poor people during most time of her life.

▪ During the annual meeting of the Commission for Youth Pastoral in Germany Sr.Simone Hachen was re-elected to the executive committee for a three years’ mandate. The Commission is an establishment of the German Conference of the higher Superiors.

* Our Way of Life *

"Our diverse talents and abilities, our differences in culture, nationality and age are assets for the richness of the community. Although we may be engaged in a variety of ministries, we all share the common call to apostolic discipleship in a community of the Catholic Apostolate of St. Vincent Pallotti."(OWL, 91)

"Christ, the Apostle of the Eternal Father, and his mission are central to our personal and community life, giving meaning and direction to our thinking, our spirituality, our prayer, action and suffering." (OWL, 19)

"As a community of disciples we are gathered around Jesus, the Apostle of the Eternal Father. Like the first disciples, we want to be with Jesus, be sent out by him and return to him to evaluate our service in the light of his presence." (OWL, 88)

"As Pallottines, it is our special charism to foster growth in faith and love among the laity, to awaken them to awareness of their apostolic call, and to cooperate with them in furthering the apostolic mission." (OWL, 21)

"Our relationships with one another should be marked by a love that bears all, believes all and hopes for all, a love that is neither conceited nor jealous, which hurts no one, nor is embittered or resentful. It is never discouraged but remains patient and kind. It rejoices with others and shares their suffering. It is with this kind of love that we should help and support one another." (OWL, 90)
